Catherine Atzen, MBA, CIDESCO — Founder

ATZEN® was founded by Catherine Atzen, an innovator and trend-setter in the spa and wellness industry and recognized by Dermascope Magazine in 2016 as a Legend for her lifetime contributions to the field.

From her humble beginnings in France where she developed a first serum to repair the skin of burn victims and the scars of traffic accident victims, she moved to Manhattan to open the first ever day spa she owned for 19 years, serving 14,600 clients, transforming the skin of celebrities, socialites, and YES dermatologists. Catherine is credited with coining the term “Day Spa” and setting industry standards for high-end skin care. She has trained over 20,000 skin care professionals worldwide and had 220 articles published in trade magazines.

“I was introduced to facials by an esthetician in France when I was 13, suffering from acne and sensitive, dehydrated skin. Although I did not have products able to solve my condition, it inspired and guided me in caring for my skin. Since then skin care has been my passion.” -- Catherine Atzen

Catherine eventually moved to California, near Silicon Valley, to raise her family in nature, away from pollution, and to focus on developing the current line ATZEN® Superior to Organic® Skin Care.

"Today we have access to natural ingredients and processes so sophisticated and scientifically advanced that I took the ATZEN line to new heights by incorporating the very best organic ingredients with naturally derived high-performance cosmeceuticals to truly transform one’s skin safely in just a few weeks while calming sensitive and allergic skin conditions. This was my dream when I experienced my first facial and it is now available to all.” Catherine has always been at the forefront of innovation and quality.

Catherine Atzen holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, a second MBA from Columbia University, NY, and a CIDESCO diploma from Switzerland (highest credentials in the skin care industry). Alex Quan, MBA — President

In 2010, Alex Quan, corporate executive, former Big 4 Fortune 100 consultant, serial entrepreneur, and investor, joined Catherine Atzen to launch ATZEN® Superior to Organic® Skin Care to transform the company into a global brand serving customers in the U.S. and around the world.

Alex grew up in the tough inner city neighborhood of Philadelphia where he learned the value of hard work, discipline, ethics, and community. At age 15, Alex moved to California to attend the prestigious Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Upon graduation, he began his 25+ year professional career that has taken him from advisory to operating roles, from large to small to startup companies, from raising capital from investors to investing in worthwhile enterprises, from publicly traded global giants to private enterprises. Core to his philosophy is companies must be responsible entities that exist not purely for their shareholders but also for the well-being of their employees, customers, communities, and environment.

ATZEN is a reflection of that philosophy.

“We create products that are natural, organic, safe, and effective. We fully disclose and educate our customers on the ingredients. We are responsible corporate citizens who care about the environment and our community. When you use our products, you know you are getting the very best from a responsible and caring company.”

Alex Quan holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, Columbia University, NY, a second MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
